Let’s face it, the house isn’t really clean if the bathroom isn’t clean, and the bathroom doesn’t truly feel clean when there’s mold on the walls in the shower. You know, that buildup of black guck between the tiles? Yeah, that. While there are so many cleaning solutions, sprays, and scrubbing devices you try that may of may not work, you can actually do it effortlessly with a few things you already have on hand — a little bleach, some baking soda, and cling wrap.
Yes, you read that right — plastic cling wrap serves much more of a purpose than preserving the other half of an avocado for later. You can use it to clean mold in your bathroom! This genius trick comes to us from the folks over at Structure Tech, who suggest that leaving a homemade solution of bleach and baking soda painted on your shower tiles and covering it with plastic wrap will nix the problem.
The first thing you’ll need to do is gather your supplies: that’s baking soda, liquid bleach, your plastic cling wrap, a mixing bowl, and a small to medium-sized paint brush. This hack requires a tiny bit of patience, but the results will be worth it!
To mix your DIY cleaning solution, you’ll make a paste out of bleach and baking soda. In a large mixing bowl, combine 3/4 cup of baking soda and 1/4 cup of bleach until it’s reaches a thick consistency. Then, paint the bleach paste onto the those moldy areas of caulk between the tiles.
Once your solution is applied, you’ll tear off pieces of the plastic wrap and “paste” them on to those areas. The plastic helps to prevent the bleach from drying out and holds it in place, which will work to remove the stubborn grime.
Let the plastic sit for about an hour, then check a test area by lifting the plastic and wiping away a little of your paste with a paper towel or cloth. If the mold comes off easily, you’re done! Just wipe away the rest of the paste and run the shower to rinse with water. Otherwise, you can use a spray bottle to spray some additional bleach just above the plastic, which will run down and re-saturate the paste. Leave it for another hour, and check again until the mold comes off with ease. Repeat as necessary!
