Set the scene for smiles with an Easter theme that couldn’t be more adorable. From light bites to sunny sips, each picture-perfect detail is inspired by the sweetest symbols of spring!
1. Dress your table with “blooming eggs.”
Hollowed-out eggs make the perfect bud vase! To do: Using light pressure, color eggs with crayon. Use a spoon to crack the top quarter of the eggshell, pour out the yolk, and rinse. Tuck a piece of soaked floral foam inside the shell and add petite blooms like grape hyacinths, mini daffodils, or lilac. Place in an eggcup and display.
2. Upgrade paper plates with a layered look.
Dress up your table for less — and enjoy fuss-free cleanup! — by using colorful paper plates. To add eye-catching impact to disposable place settings, layer a white paper doily ($5.99 for 180, Amazon) over a simple woven place mat. A patterned napkin adds a pop of pretty, especially when tied with a white bow.
3. Put a fun twist on traditional egg hunts.
Instead of searching for treats and toys small enough to cram into plastic Easter eggs, event planner Amy Stevens of A Lively Affair suggests placing a slip of paper with a number that corresponds to a bigger prize in each egg. Fun options: sidewalk chalk, jumbo lollipops, and bubbles.
4. Serve eggs in “baskets.”
For a new spin on eggs and toast, use a rolling pin to flatten white bread; brush both sides with melted butter. Push bread into the wells of a muffin pan; bake at 375 degrees Fahrenheit for five minutes. Crack an egg in each “basket;” top with cooked bacon. Bake 20 minutes.
5. Make a “bird’s nest” cake.
Icing a trendy “naked” cake is surprisingly easy! To do: Spread frosting between layers of carrot cake, then smooth the excess around the sides, leaving them mostly exposed. (Tip: Before frosting, wrap layers in plastic wrap and freeze for 30 minutes to firm the cake and minimize crumbs.) To make the crowd-pleasing nest-shaped topper, use a vegetable peeler to shave fresh coconut into strips, then arrange into a nest on the cake and top with speckled eggs.
6. Delight guests with “bunny bark.”
For an easy-on-you treat that’s sure to impress, break a few milk, dark or white chocolate bunnies into small pieces and microwave in a microwave-safe bowl at medium power in 30-second intervals, stirring until melted. Pour chocolate onto a baking sheet lined with wax paper and sprinkle with jelly beans, Peeps, and other Easter candies. Cool on the counter for 30 minutes, then cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate until the mix hardens. Break up into pieces and serve.
