Your social media feed is about to look a whole lot prettier. We were positively floored when we found out bubble gum-flavored strawberries exist, but the latest innovation in genetic modification — pink pineapples — have us even more excited.
Fruit-producing giant Del Monte has been developing the fabulous fruit since 2005, using a simple addition of lycopene, the gene responsible for the color of tomatoes, to the equation.
And not only are they sweeter than yellow pineapples, their pink flesh has earned them the name “Rosé” (too cute!).
These beauties were given the tick of approval by America’s Food and Drug Administration in December last year, but we’re only now seeing them in the flesh as Instagrammers everywhere start snapping the stunners.
Though we’ve yet to see them on shelves, our imagination is running wild with pink pineapple possibilities.
Just imagine them as a garnish to your favorite cocktails or topping your most creative pineapple cakes — your social media feed will love it.
Maybe they’ll even convince the Icelandic President to reconsider his stance on pineapple on pizza.
