Want to Spice Up Your Morning Cup of Joe? Try This Delicious Masala Coffee

Spice up your life.

Is your morning cup of joe in need of a fun reboot? Sometimes I get bored with a plain old cup of coffee, especially now that pumpkin spice season and the holidays are over. Luckily, you can make your own tasty coffee beverage with this masala coffee recipe, which is super simple to do right at home!

Masala coffee might sound like it’s complicated and involves a lot of effort, but trust me, it’s easy enough for anyone to do — and the creamy texture, and sweet-yet-spicy taste is totally worth it. “Masala” just means spices, and in this Indian coffee beverage, cardamom and cinnamon steal the show.

The cardamom and cinnamon in masala coffee give it a really smooth yet robust flavor. Cardamom is actually a mild stimulant, though it doesn’t affect us the same way that caffeine does. In fact, brewing coffee with cardamom is said to reduce the harmful effects of the acid in coffee and even improve digestion! Cinnamon is not only a warming spice, but it also adds a sweet, comforting taste to this sip. Other than those two ingredients, you just need hot water, sugar, instant coffee, and milk!

A Simple Masala Coffee Recipe

To make your own masala coffee at home, all you have to do is combine 3/4 cup water and 3/4 milk in a saucepan and bring it to a boil (you can use regular cow’s milk or replace with any milk alternative you choose — I sometimes do it with almond milk!). Then, add in 2 tsp. instant coffee, 2 cardamom pods, 1 cinnamon stick, and sugar to taste. Stir gently and allow your coffee to boil for three to four minutes. Finally, strain the mixture and pour your coffee into a mug to enjoy. That’s it! You can also put your coffee. into a mason jar, seal, and shake vigorously for about a minute to make it extra frothy.

So even though the season of festive holiday beverages is over, with very little effort, you can boost your morning routine with a deliciously spiced cup of coffee that’s easy to make at home. The combination of spices, milk, and sugar make this coffee the perfect sweet treat that’s warm and cozy for those chilly winter mornings. I hope you love this recipe as much as I do!
