Princess Diana was known for frequently rubbing shoulders and even becoming good friends with celebrities. But that didn’t keep her from still getting starstruck from time to time — but we definitely didn’t expect one famous face that made her blush!
It happened while she and Charles were visiting Washington, DC, in 1985. We’ve all seen images of Diana dancing the night away with several handsome Hollywood men, including the unforgettable photos of John Travolta twirling her around. However, Pete Souza, the photographer who took those snaps, claims the hunky Saturday Night Fever actor wasn’t the one responsible for turning the princess’s cheeks pink. It also wasn’t Tom Selleck, Clint Eastwood, or even President Reagan, all of whom she cut a rug with that night.
Instead, Souza recalls crooner Neil Diamond having a noticeable impact on Diana. He recently shared on Instagram, “The one rock-solid remembrance I have is that Diana was visibly blushing when she danced with Neil. In the photograph, you can see that her cheeks are a bit red but in the moment it was even more obvious.”
Diana’s cheeks certainly look extra-rosy in the photo:
Diamond was at the event that night singing with the military band. Apparently, Diana got flustered when he continued his performance throughout their dance.
“I distinctly remember him singing ‘You Don’t Bring Me Flowers,’” Souza wrote in the caption. “My recollection — and I can’t be sure this is correct — is that he continued singing this song as he danced with her.” To be fair, we’d probably blush while being serenaded by a Grammy Award-winning singer, too!
Souza went down memory lane again with another post featuring more photos from the evening:
It was clearly an unforgettable night for everyone involved — but especially Diana!
