As humans in the midst of a plastic crisis, we’re all for any little bit we can do to help reduce our eco-footprint — even if it means changing up our beauty habits. National Geographic reports that the amount of plastic used on US products has increased 120 times over since 1960, with “70 percent of that waste piling up in landfills.” There are plenty of companies working hard to reduce that number, however, including innovative deodorant brand Myro ($10, Urban Outfitters).
Rather than packaging its vegan, gluten-, soy-, and mineral-free plant-based product in the typical plastic twist-up container, the brand worked with New York studio Visibility to create a first-of-its-kind refillable deodorant tube that uses recyclable replacement pods for replenishment.
The result? A durable, eye-catching, dishwasher-safe design that’s super easy to refill and twists up for use. Its pods also use 50 percent less plastic than your average toiletry.
“We’re all so used to disposing of deodorants when they’re empty that we had to figure out how a plastic applicator would visually suggest it’s a different product and still maintain familiarity,” Visibility co-founder Sina Sohrab told Dezeen in 2018.
If that doesn’t entice you to make the switch from your usual brand, its all-natural plant formula just might. Unlike normal deodorants, this one is aloe-based to glide on smoothly, with bacteria-neutralizing citrus, probiotics, sage, and natural cornstarch to keep you nice and dry.
That’s good news for women especially, since the salt compound aluminum chloride that’s often used in deodorant to plug our sweat ducts can have a negative impact on our hormones. “It is believed that these components may affect the hormones — in women, particularly — and therefore may increase the risk of breast cancer by affecting the hormone balance,” professor of cancer epidemiology at the University of Sydney, Guy Elsick, explained to Huffington Post Australia in 2016.
Reviewers say it does the trick, with one writing, “I’ve been using natural deodorant for a while now, so this one is working out quite well for me. The scent is pleasant and the design of the actual product is so modern and chic. I love that you only have to replace the product with a refill, rather than buying a full, plastic deodorant tube again.”
Another noted that it helped with her daughter’s über-sensitive skin. “She was using an aluminum-based deodorant and kept getting a painful rash. She has been … this for a few days now and the rash is already clearing. She says she likes the smell and it keeps her smelling clean and fresh.”

When you’re ready to refill it, simply head over to Target to pick up a refill pod or sign up for the brand’s subscription plan to get them delivered to your door every three, four, or six months.
