This dog likes kittens so much, he’s gotten hired as a babysitter. Really!
If you haven’t heard of Boots the Kitten Nanny, allow us to introduce you. Sweet and mild-mannered, Boots is a 12-year-old golden retriever who was rescued more than 10 years ago in New Orleans during the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. His paws were badly damaged, and volunteer workers from the Arizona Humane Society helped bandage his feet (hence the name “Boots”) and nursed him back to health. One of the workers was so enamored by the sweet dog’s fighting spirit, she decided to adopt him.
Now, Boots is pawing… er, paying it forward.
You see, each week, Boots visits the Arizona Humane Society’s shelter and spends time with kittens who are five to eight weeks old. That’s to help the kittens become more adoptable by exposing them to new experiences–like learning to behave around other animals–at a young age. Rightfully so, his work to socialize the newborn felines has earned him a prestigious title: “Kitten Nanny.”
One thing’s for sure: Boots loves his job. His owner, Susan Juergensen, told People: “It’s so cute; now when we go to the shelter he knows he’s working. I think he’s saying, ‘Finally these humans have realized my talent as a nanny and given me a job!'”
