With the singer’s larger than life approach to hair, makeup, and costumes, we can’t help but find inspiration in all of her colorful creations. It was back in the 1960s when the best-selling artist first emerged as a trendsetter with her hippie fashion. Think: bell bottoms, tunics, and bandanas. In 1967, Cher met designer Bob Mackie on the set of the The Carol Burnett Show, and the two of them went on to create some of her most famous red-carpet looks. Think: sparkle, glitz, glamour. 

It should probably come as no surprise, then, that in 1999, the Council of Fashion Designers of America recognized Cher with an award for her influence on the fashion industry — and for inspiring the style of many pop singers and celebrities who came after her.
