The keto diet has exploded in popularity in recent years. So it’s no shock that some of Hollywood’s brightest stars have tried the eating plan. Considering the keto diet is low in carbs and high in fat, it’s no secret that the plan can be a challenging one, even if you’re a celeb.
Scroll down to find out which stars loved the keto diet and which ones kicked the eating plan to the curb.
Celebrities On Keto Pioneer Woman
The Pioneer Woman told People, "Last summer, I kind of dove into the keto [diet] world and enjoyed it. It was a good exercise." Although she's since settled back into a "more sustainable, realistic way of eating," she said her experience cutting sugar and grains inspired her cookbook New Frontier, available October 2019. Though New Frontier is not a keto cookbook, it does offer plenty of lightened-up versions of classic recipes.
Celebrities On Keto Halle Berry
Spend some time on Halle Berry's Instagram and you'll quickly learn how much she loves the keto diet — and why. As she explained in one post, "Being diabetic most of my life, I have always had to take food very seriously. So for years, I have been following the keto or ketogenic diet. I hate the word 'diet' so while you’ll see the word diet, just know I encourage you to think of it as a lifestyle change NOT A DIET! Keto is a very low-carb food plan which actually forces your body to burn fat like crazy." She added that she also believes keto is largely responsible for slowing down her aging process.
Celebrities On Keto Savannah Guthrie
Safe to say the TODAY co-host isn't the biggest advocate for keto after trying it for a period of several weeks. "It's not even doing anything," she said in an interview on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen. "I haven't lost anything! I haven't lost a thing, but you know what? I've eaten a lot of bacon and I like it."
Celebrities On Keto Al Roker
While his colleague Savannah might not have had much weight-loss success with the keto diet, TODAY weather anchor Al Roker had a totally opposite experience. "I’ve lost about 40 pounds," he revealed on the show. "My cholesterol — just had them checked a couple of weeks ago. Everything’s good." He even shared one of his personal favorite keto recipes with his audience: sloppy Joe's on keto-friendly bread.
Celebrities On Keto Mark Consuelos
While the famed soap hasn't spoken much publicly about his diet, his wife Kelly Ripa revealed to Bon Appetit: "My husband has gone full keto, which I don’t mind telling you is something I could never do. I just don’t have that level of discipline. Mark says that I’m carb-o, because I always eat his bun if he gets a burger. And the fries." Hey, sharing is caring!
Celebrities On Keto Vanessa Hudgens
The actress explained in an interview with People that she alternates between intermittent fasting and keto. Of the latter, she said, "It’s great. If you have the right ingredients to keep you on track, I think it’s amazing. People a lot of times think of fats in diets as a negative thing, and when you’re doing keto it’s a very positive thing. I’m always making sure I’m getting those healthy fats in, so I eat a LOT of almond butter. You feel really energetic and supported on the keto diet."
Celebrities On Keto Tim Tebow
The pro athlete gushed about his experience on the keto diet to GQ: "I'm on something called a ketogenic diet which is high fat, moderate protein, low carb, low sugar. So I have to take in a lot of fat, and the number one fat comes from avocados." He further elaborated on his love for avos: "It's incredible. It's a super food. And even if that's not your diet, it's incredible food for you. I put them in my smoothies, guacamole, a bunch of different things. For me it's more than just trying to stay in shape for sports, it's a way of life, of trying to be healthy."
Celebrities On Keto Witney Carson
In an interview with Women's Health, the Dancing With the Stars pro admitted she felt "gross" while on the keto diet. "I did lose weight on it, but my skin broke out," she said. "I have eczema and my eczema was super, super bad. I think I have an allergy to dairy and cheese, so I try to stay away as much as I can now." Currently, Witney thinks it's best for her to stick to the "basics" of whole foods, including lean meats and small amounts of carbs.
Celebrities On Keto Vinny
The Jersey Shore star lost an impressive 50 pounds on keto. So it's only fitting that he'd offer other prospective dieters some tips on his Instagram page: "If you are just beginning keto for your weight loss journey and feel overwhelmed... relax... try not to overthink with thoughts like, 'I can never eat carbs again!? I’m going to fail!'" He added that taking things one meal at a time helped him succeed: "Your hungry brain could be very [tempted] to eat junk food, but your full and satiated brain thinks more rationally. So always have your next keto meal/snack in mind so you have a plan and aren’t stuck with big hunger swings. Besides, the more fat you eat and fat adapted you become, the more satiated, satisfied, and full you will always feel."
